I was thinking that it was nice to see the leaves falling in my yard so I don’t have to look at the pathetic dried up landscape that was once my beautiful green grass.
I caught a local news story the other day that recommended overseeding a lawn in the fall before the first snowfall as a way to bring back the grass after this dry summer. I did some research online and this may be an idea worth trying.
Per the U of M Extension, this is called dormant seeding and is done in November.
This avoids having to prepare the soil in the spring
Can result in a head start in getting the lawn established
Works best with a cover of snow soon after seeding
Should see results by late April or early May
If this doesn’t work you can always overseed again in the spring
