Low and behold I came across this how-to article from The Spruce website just when I was starting to think about pulling out holiday decorations. The only thing stopping me from getting the holiday spirit going was this year’s worth of clutter in nearly every room.
The Spruce article breaks down room by room decluttering for us into 3 steps.
Step 1 - Create your room by room decluttering checklists. (You can see their suggested lists in the article.) Also they offer a good tip: Before starting on a room, write down next to each item whether you will donate, gift, throw, recycle, or sell it. Making this decision before you start will reduce overwhelm while decluttering.
Step 2 - Then pick a room to start with and break it down by choosing an area within that room as your starting point. Another way to make decluttering less overwhelming.
Step 3 - Most importantly follow through and get rid of what you have decluttered!!!
